On August 30th Bob Reid of AANDC Water Resources, gave us a tour of the Baker Creek research area. Baker Creek and the area to the northeast of Yellowknife are on the Canadian Shield. Thus, the soils in this region are very shallow and dominated by mineral and organic soils in low areas between rocky outcrops. The long-term research at Baker Creek has been used to improve understanding of hyrodrologic flows in this distinct landscape, which contains permafrost.
